HOW DO I TRANSFER AUDIO FILES FROM MY COMPUTER TO AN ANALOG TAPE OR OTHER RECORDING DEVICE?

It's easy to transfer/record ABC ePrep audio files from your computer to a reel-to-reel tape deck, cassette tape deck or any other recording device, or direct into your production console. Simply plug one end of a length of standard audio cable into your sound card's 'audio out' or 'line out' jack in the back of your computer, and plug the other end into the appropriate input jack in the analog device. You may need to purchase a male connector adapter or two to make the cable ends match the jacks. Then just begin recording on the analog or other device and play the file on your computer.

WHAT TYPE OF SOUND CARD SHOULD I USE TO GET QUALITY AUDIO?

We suggest a sound card with the following specs as a guidelines:
  • 8 to 24 bit resolution
  • 22 to 96khz sampling rate(or higher)
  • analog two channel in/out via 1/4" TRS or DB connector breakout to XLR (this is for balanced audio in/out)
  • TRS = tip, ring, sleeve s/pdif digital in/out via RCA connectors (typical industry connection)
  • +4/-10 balanced / unbalanced operation ( +4db is current studio std)

If unbalanced operation is necessary because the station has chosen to use the internal sound card , we suggest an commercial off the shelf IHF to Pro level matching box. Most on the market are of good quality.

If you are having trouble with noise on the sound card, we suggest moving the sound card farther away from the video on the motherboard...otherwise, switching to a pro card with balanced in/outputs might be a good idea.
